ZC Engineering Inc. is a professional structural design firm located in Markham, specializing in the structural design of low-rise residences, infill housing, custom homes, and commercial and industrial buildings. Our office is looking for Structural Engineers and Designers/Drafters to help grow our team, design buildings, and provide technical expertise for our structural projects.
Designer / Drafter
Responsibilities
- Develop and prepare structural designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, and specifications;
- Read and interpret existing engineering drawings;
- Check and verify design drawings for conformance with specifications and design data;
- Contribute to the preparation of contracts and tender documents;
- Ensure clients’ needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner;
- Maintain current knowledge of National and Provincial building codes.
Qualifications
- Minimum college degree in civil engineering technology or equivalent with 3-5 years of relevant experience;
- 3-5 years of working experience in design drafting with AutoCAD/Revit;
- Experience working with BIM modeling is an asset;
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Committed to continual improvement and learning;
- Construction experience is an asset.
Structural Engineer
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering design and detailing of structures composed of various materials, including wood, concrete, masonry, and steel;
- Design new building structures as well as structural alterations, renovations, and additions to existing buildings;
- Complete review of shop drawings and RFIs during the construction phase of projects;
- Conduct site inspections and field reviews, and prepare technical reports;
- Respond to client requests for proposals;
- Edit specifications to suit project-specific requirements;
- Manage time spent on design tasks to meet established project-specific work plans;
- Keep detailed records of all work, including design calculations and models.
Qualifications
- Work independently on simple projects and as part of a team on more complex projects;
- Bachelor's degree inCivil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering;
- Registered Professional Engineer with the PEO;
- 5-10 years of relevant engineering experience;
- Working knowledge of all applicable local and national building codes and standards;
- Design experience should be buildings-focused and can include some or all of the following:residential (low, mid-rise building), commercial, and industrial;
- Experience with lateral models, seismic analysis, and design experience is an asset;
- General working knowledge of other building disciplines;
- Experience with SAP2000/STAADPro/ETABS or similar preferred;
- Good knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
